Within the framework of  project a research team from the Center for Economic and Social Studies developed a research report about the city of Tirana which was publisehd in November 2008. The report was divided in four main parts.

The first part provided a general bacground of the study area (Tirana) focuisng on the historical development, demographic changes, and population groups that have been living in the area. It also provided an overview about the Albanian international migration, Albanian Brain Drain, Internal Migration, Return Migration, and Immigration of foreign immigrants in Albania.

The second part of the report introduced ten interviews: four with returned migrants, four with family members of migrants that are left behind in Albania, and two interviews with immigrants that resided in Albania at that time. These interviewers were selected with the aim of representin all the charracteristics of the post 1990s Albanian migration. These interviews told different stories which help to grasp the lives and issues that returned migrants, migrant relatives and immigrants face when living in Tirana.

The third part is an analysis of the positive and negative impacts of migration in Albania. It touches upon issues such as: migration and poverty; the economic, human and social impact of return migration, the impact of migration on communities left behind and the integration of immigrants in the social and cultural life.
