CESS - The Center for Economic and Social Studies

Partners

Institutions

CESS cooperates with a wide range of stakeholders and partners. This includes Albanian institutions such as the Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Equal Chances, and local governance structures. Furthermore, CESS also has close exchange of information on related subjects with the Academy of Sciences; the Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT); and the country’s central bank, Bank of Albania.

 Albanian Universities

CESS has engaged students and teaching staff at the University of Tirana and other universities of the country in several research projects, either as project staff or as contributors to the research. It has also exchanged information on related fields with universities across the country. CESS also hosts students from Albanian universities interested in conducting research on migration.

International Organizations

CESS has been involved in more than eighty different projects and studies funded by international organizations such as UN’s World Bank, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP),  International Children’s and Education Fund (UNICEF), International Labour Office (ILO); European Union’s PHARE Programme and European Training Foundation (ETF); intergovernmental organizations like the International Organization for Migration (IOM); government agencies like Department for International Development (DFID) and British Council and the Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency; charities like Catholic Relief Services (CRS) or foundations like Open Society Foundation Albania (OSFA).

International Networks

CESS has linkages with universities, research centers and similar research groups across the world, in the US, Great Britain, France, Austria, Italy, Greece, Macedonia, Kosova, Bulgaria, and Romania. It is our goal to strengthen international ties with counterpart organizations.

CESS is also a member of two international networks on migration:

It has been, since 2003, a partner of the Development Research Center on Migration Globalization and Poverty  of the University of Sussex, United Kingdom. The Migration DRC is a partnership of eight institutions located in five countries (Albania, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ghana, and the UK) all working on the relationship between migration and poverty. CESS has concluded a number of projects with DRC.

CESS became a member of the International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion (IMISCOE) in 2007. IMISCOE is a network of research institutions and universities that bring together 450 select, highly qualified researchers from 23 established European research institutes. They implement an integrated, multidisciplinary, rigorously comparative research programme on migration, integration and social cohesion, with Europe as its central focus. IMISCOE provides comprehensive theoretical and empirical knowledge that can form a reliable basis for policy. International migration, into and within the EU, is a fundamental issue of politics and policy today.
