Structure of the Organization

CESS has a board of six members, an executive director and five full-time staff members. CESS engages additional researchers from the Albanian Academy of Sciences, University of Tirana, and other institutions for specific research projects. Below you can find biographical notes on select collaborators of the Center and its staff.

  • Dr. Ilir Gedeshi

    Executive Director

    Dr. Gedeshi is an economist who has worked extensively on regional migration trends in the Balkans. He is a former chair of the Economics Department at the University of Tirana and has published numerous articles on the transition in Albania in English, French and Albanian.

  • Etleva Gërmenji, PhD

    Dr. Germenji, is a consultant in development economics and information technologies. She holds a doctorate in economics from the Catholic University in Leuven. She has participated in many of CESS' migration projects, and has also authored many lectures, scientific articles and books in the field of migration published in Albania and in many European countries.

    Mr. Gjokuta holds a B.A. in European Studies from the University of Maastricht, the Netherlands and has conducted several internships and training sessions on European integration issues. He joined CESS in September 2006.

     
  • Prof. Esmeralda Uruçi

    Shkodra Member

    Prof. Uruçi teaches at the Faculty of Economics at Luigj Gurakuqi University in Shkodra and at ‘Nostra Signora di Buon Consiglio’ University in Tirana. She has authored many scientific articles published in Albania and internationally, a number of which have dealt with migration issues.

  • Asst.  Naxhi Mamani

    Gjirokastra Member

    Prof. Mamani chairs the Economics Department at the Eqrem Cabej University in Gjirokastra. He is the author of many scientific articles published in Albania and abroad and has written a book: Gjirokastra’s Economy during Transition.

     
  •   Dr. Pranvera Jahollari

    Vlora Member

    Dr. Jahollari is a professor at the Economics Faculty of the Ismail Qemali University in Vlora. She teaches Micro and Macro Economics and Economics of Tourism. She has participated in many projects organized by CESS in the region. 
  • Prof. Yllson Manoku

    Korca Member

    A professor at the Economic Faculty at the Fan Noli University of Korça, Prof. Manoku has written many scientific articles published in Albania and abroad, a number of which have dealt with migration issues.

     
  • Prof. Vladimir Misja

    Honorary Member

    Prof. Misja is member of the Academy of Sciences of Albania, and has been involved with CESS since its creation. He has written many speeches, scientific articles and books on the Albanian economy and migration. He is author of International Migration in Albania during the Transition Period (Tirana: 1998).
